So, yesterday was an interesting day. My body decided that vision and standing upright were for suckers shortly after I got to work, so rather than dealing with spreadsheets I got to take a nap on the couch while waiting for the first available doctor’s appointment. It turns out that everything is fine, I just have ridiculously low blood pressure because my body isn’t producing enough blood yet to adequately cope with my newly expanded circulatory system. The baby is a selfish little parasite, so it is perfectly fine, I’m just the one who’s suffering. So, I have been ordered to double my fluid intake, to eat even when I don’t feel hungry yet, and to not move too fast for a while.

It turns out that in addition to being selfish, it is also a devious little thing, because if it had let us hear it’s heartbeat last week, we probably wouldn’t have gotten an ultrasound already, and we wouldn’t have been scratching our heads saying, “Gee, isn’t that baby awfully well developed for being only ten weeks old?” The baby is, in fact, very large and well defined for a ten week old, but perfectly normal for a fourteen week old. I never knew this before, but it is apparently possible to get a period (or even two!) and yet already be pregnant. Which means that I took this baby drinking with me on Christmas and New Year’s, so, um, sorry baby! Please forgive me! I didn’t think you were here yet! But this means the new due date (for those of you keeping score) is going to be somewhere closer to September 7, not October like we thought. At least now I know why I’m so freakishly huge already. I’m showing a perfectly normal amount for someone just starting her second trimester.
