I sometimes feel very jealous of Roy and his role-playing games. I hear him downstairs talking to Doug and Darlene and Tracy, and I have no idea of anything that they’re talking about. It’s a part of his life that I don’t understand at all, that I have no part in, and it makes me feel sad that there’s this thing that is so important to him and gives him so much pleasure, and there’s no place for me there with him.

    Now I wonder why you say there’s no place for you with him in gaming? Is it concious on your part, that is, saying ‘I’ve looked at gaming, and it doesn’t interest me’, or maybe Roy saying ‘It would be really wierd if you gamed with my group’, or is it more of a ‘They are so distant with their wierd statistics and funny stories, I could never be like that’?

    The thing is, I do game, and hearing other people’s conversations about stats and gaming still annoys the heck out of me. I still feel distant because I am not as enthusiastic about gaming as some of my playmates, and although I do occasionally understand what they’re talking about, I’m never going to get all of their in-jokes, or share their level of interest in a particular game, and it can be a very distancing thing. I don’t know if that’s the feeling you’re talking about, but I’ve experienced feeling this way and it does hurt a little bit.

    Demo demo, Libby-san, if you have any interest whatsoever in joining us, we would love to have you! I mean, I only know two games right now that have openings, but one’s mine, so if you ever think you might what to give it a try, do let me know.

    I would have asked earlier, but I thought you disliked gaming? (Um, feel free to tell me: “Yes, I do, and that’s what I meant in the first place”, btw.)
