Ryan and I opened a joint checking account today. It made me feel adorably grown-up, and also very happy because once we finish getting all the bits for this account set up, I am closing my account with Chase once and for all. I am so fed up with them. Credit unions, [...]
Spontaneous Productivity Day! Ryan had the day off and I just got paid, so we decided to go down to the mattress store on Hawthorne and see how much it would cost to get a new bed. (My old futon is starting to show the strain, and now that I’m getting huge I [...]
Today was a good day. Our state tax return arrived (still no sign of the federal one) and so did my FMLA paperwork, which means that squid-sucking son of a bilge rat that calls itself a manager can’t say a damn thing about me taking time off for my doctor’s appointments anymore.
Oh, and did I mention that my father got laid off? Today was his last day. Apparently my parents have known that this was coming for a month, but they didn’t bother to tell me because I have ‘other things to think about.’ I don’t think my mother would have told me [...]

I’m always nervous about calling a doctor, especially an eye doctor. It does not help assuage my feelings of impending doom when I describe my symptoms to the receptionist and she says, ‘Oh my yes, we can clear some space for you this afternoon.’ Turns out not to be so bad though, the [...]
It is amazing how grumpy having the wrong kind of deoderant can make you, and how gloriously happy everything is once you finally have the right one again. I made the mistake of buying the ’soft solid’ instead of the ’solid’ last time, and didn’t realize my error until I’d already got the wrapper [...]
